Gordon E. Schermerhorn, 90, of Kingman died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at The Gardens Care Center in Kingman. He was born Aug. 1, 1921, in Mina, N.Y, and came to Kingman 28 years ago from Jamestown, N.Y.
He was an alumnus of Lakewood High School. He worked as an Industrial Sales Representative, retiring from Gierston Tool Company in 1983. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Kingman. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and the Korean Conflict.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Loy B. and Edith Martin Schermerhorn; his wife of 60 years, the former Lillian A. Till; his sisters, Helen Wellman and Martha Peiffer; brothers, William Schermerhorn and Raymond Schermerhorn; son, Douglas G. Schermerhorn; and grandson, Carmine DeFrancisco.
Gordon is survived by his daughters, Sandra L. Dowling (Edward) of Syosset, N.Y., and Nancy E. Boynes (Gary) of Glassboro, N.J.; grandson, Shawn Schermerhorn of San Diego; granddaughters, Kelly Hickman (Andrew) of Fallon, Nev., Robyn Schermerhorn of Las Vegas, Eileen K. Ratzer (Charles) of Alexandria, Va., and Bethany J. Wigal (Jack) of Kingman; grandson, Brian M. Dowling (Marlys) of Guttenberg, N.J.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Grace Lutheran Church. Sutton Memorial Funeral Home is handling the cremation. No visitation is planned.
