GILMORE, Nellie T. (Nel)


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, January 21, 2007 After suffering a stroke, Nel Gilmore passed from this earth peacefully on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, in San Diego, Calif., after a full and rich life at the age of 87. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 31, 1919, Nel received her Masters of Science in Education from Syracuse University in 1948. She went on to a successful career as an educator and administrator who taught at various levels in many parts of the world, including New York, Wisconsin, and in Brazil, where she met and later married John Gilmore. John and Nel retired to Prescott in the late seventies. An independent woman, Nel was accomplished traveler at a time when women rarely traveled alone. Nel is survived by her sister, Pat Lyons; her step-sons Scott and Gary Gilmore; her niece, Pat Larkin; and her nephews Craig, John and Barry Lyons; as well as six great-nieces and -nephews and two step-granddaughters.
