ALVAREZ, Rupert Martinez

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, January 25, 2007 Rupert Martinez Alvarez, bom in Granger, Texas on March 28, 1929, was delivered peacefully into the arms of his Lord, Jesus Christ, on Jan. 12, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Josephine (Manzanares) Alvarez; his children: Christine Price, Jacqueline Tingler, Caroline Edwards, Debbie, Rupert II and Raymond Alvarez and Kimberley Dennis; 15 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Manual and Mike Alvarez; sisters, Elvira Fitzpatrick, Dalia Johnson and Pauline Alvarez; and many more Alvarez and Manzanares relatives in Texas, whom he truly cherished and who cherished him. Rupert served in Italy during World War II. He was a master tile setter. He laid tile in the old Sky Harbor Terminal, the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona, and many throughout Phoenix during the 1950s. Rupert attended Robert Road Baptist Church in Prescott Valley, where he was baptized in 1997. He was a generous man to many, a storyteller and comedian to his family and friends, and an outgoing person who would start up a conversation with anyone he met. He was a strong-minded man who believed that if you wanted something you had to work for it; no one was going to hand it to you on a silver platter. We will all miss our father very much, but we know he is celebrating in the arms of our Savior! Information provided by survivors.
