Mrs. Kate Allen, Pioneer, Dies; Noted For Alms
Mrs. Kate Allen, 92, known throughout the valley as "Aunt Kate," passed away quietly Saturday, June 13, at the home of Mrs. D. F. McLennan in Clarkdale. Death came at 1:30 p. m.
Mrs. Alien is survived by eight children, 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Beloved by many in three generations, Mrs. Alien was noted for her acts of charity. It was said of "Aunt Kate" that she never refused to go-to the aid of anyone who needed help.
Mrs. Alien was one of the few remaining pioneers of the Verde Valley. Born in BIoomington, Ill., on January 9, 1861, she was brought across the plains to the valley by her parents Nancy and George Sessions, in a train of wagons drawn, by oxen. After stopovers in Kansas and New Mexico, her pushed farther west and settled at Camp Verde.
Shortly, afterward she was married to William Riley Allen at the Willard home near Bridgeport. They established their home in Cherry and became the parents of 12 children, eight of whom survive.
Mrs. Alien was preceded in death many years ago by her husband, a son Harry, and three daughters, Edna, Jennie and Maude.
Her survivors include five daughters: Dora Hendricks, Grass Valley, Calif.; Mrs. Anria J. Wombacher, Clarkdale; Mrs. Ethel V. Reeves, Camp Verde; Mrs. Rose I. Back, Phoenix; Mrs. Nina E. Dickinson, Wickenburg; and three sons, Fred W. Allen, San Jacinto, Calif.; George S. Allen, Clarkdale, and Ray S. Allen, Clarkdale.
Graveside services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the family cemetery at Cherry by Rev. Robert M. Webster, of Clarkdale.

Mrs. Kate Allen, 92, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 13, at the Clarkdale home of Mrs. Lottie McLennan. She was born in Bloomington, Ill., Jan. 9, 1861, the daughter of Nancy and George Session.
She and her parents came across the plains in a covered wagon drawn by ox-team, arriving in Camp Verde in the fall of 1876.
The following year, she and William Riley Allen were married in the old Willard home place at Bridgeport. The couple established a home at Cherry, where Mrs. Allen spent the greater part of her life, the last ten years in Clarkdale.
Twelve children were born to this union, of which eight survived. Her husband preceded her in death thirty-seven years ago; also preceding her were one son, Harry, and three daughters, Edna, Jenny and Maude.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Dora Hendricks, Grass Valley, Calif.; Mrs. Ethel B. Reeves, Camp Verde; Mrs. Rose I. Back, Phoenix, Mrs. Nina E. Dickinson, Wickenburg; Mrs. Anna J. Wombacker, Clarkdale; and three sons, Fred W. Allen, San Jacinta, Calif., George S. Allen, Clarkdale, and Ray F. Allen, Bridgeport; twenty grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, June 15. Interment was in the family cemetery at Cherry, with the Rev. Robert Webster officiating.
Cottonwood Funeral chapel was in charge of arrangements.
