Irma Lea Wood, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep at, her, home in Prescott, Arizona, the morning of Oct. 1, 2006. Born March 23, 1919, in Denver, Colo., to Frank and Irma (Meier) Jelinek, she was raised on the eastern plains of Colorado in Kit Carson.
Living through the "Dust Bowl" and Depression, Lea taught in a two-room school house early in her career and continued on to retire as a teacher. After her retirement, she was a substitute teacher. Lea also had worked in the aircraft factories of Kansas City and San Diego during World War II.
On June 16, 1947. Lea (as many friends and family know her) married Charles K. Wood.
They were blessed to share a little over 50 years together. Lea and Chuck lived, worked and raised their family in Denver until 1975 when Chuck retired. Together they returned to Kit Carson to run the family ranch.
In 1989, they moved to Prescott, Ariz., to be close to their daughter and grandsons.
Her entire life exemplified devotion to her family and friends. The essence of her being was love, caring, and giving.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Terryl Ann in 1954, and her husband, Charles, in 1998.
Survivors include her daughter Caria and spouse Gary Baker of Prescott, Ariz.; grandsons Andrew (AJ) Baker and Adam Baker of Flagstaff, Ariz.; brother Paul Jelinek of Wheatridge, Colo.; and sister Alena Mae Stimack of Lakewood, Colo.
A Celebration of Life service will, be held Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at 10 a.m. in the Ivy Chapel at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, Colo. Burial will take place following the service. Rev. Larry Baker will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the United Methodist Church, Box 2, Kit Carson, Colo., 90825.
The Hampton Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
