Roberta Sparks Brown, 90, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 21, 2004. She was born July 15, 1913 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point and also attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Wisconsin-Superior, and the University of Minnesota-Duluth. She taught school in Eagle River and Superior, Wisconsin and Duluth, Minnesota. She was married to Maurice L. Brown of Superior, Wisconsin on September 1, 1943 at the First Baptist Church of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. While in Superior, she was a member and Deacon at the Hammond Avenue Presbyterian Church; a member of P.E.O.; Superior Women's Club; Garden Club; a member of the Board of Directors of the Douglas County Historical Museum; and chairman of the gardens at the Douglas County Museum. After residing in Superior for 42 years, she and her husband moved to Tempe, Az in 1979 and spent their summers in Flagstaff, AZ. She was a member of Grace Community Church in Tempe. Roberta is survived by her daughter Beth Peterson and husband Ben, of Tempe, two grandchildren: Todd Peterson (wife, Melinda) of Carlsbad, Ca. and Karine (Kari) Peterson of Chandler, a sister Agnes E. Sparks of Tempe, and a nephew, Bob Goetz (wife Nancy) of Clifton, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice in 1987 and sister Adelaide (Sparks) Goetz in 1972. A memorial service was held January 29, 2004 at Grace Community Church, 1200 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, AZ. Internment at Greenland Cemetery in Superior, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to: Grace Community Church (Missions Fund), 1200 East Southern Ave., Tempe, AZ 85282 or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
