Raymond A. Pelkey, 84, of Greene, N.Y., and formerly of Hudson, N.H., died July 15, 2006, at the home of his daughter, where he resided. Mr. Pelkey was born on June 4, 1922, in Nashua, N.H., son of the late Charles and Laura (Duprey) Pelkey.
Raymond was the husband of the late Trinidad (Benavidez) Pelkey, who died in 1995.
Mr. Pelkey held numerous memberships in organizations throughout the community. He was a Head Stewart at the American Legion, Post 48 in Hudson, N.H., for twenty years and a former police officer in Hudson. Raymond also was involved with the American Ex Prisoners of War, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, #5791 in Hudson, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor. Raymond was also active in the Knights of Columbus in Hudson and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus with the Prince of Peace Assembly in Nashua. Mr. Pelkey was also a member with AARP, the Hudson Seniors, and the Nashua Seniors.
Mr. Pelkey retired to Prescott, from 1975 until 1995, returning upon the death of his wife. In 1998, Raymond then moved to Greene, N.Y., to reside with his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bill Pygon.
Besides his parents and his wife, Trinidad, Mr. Pelkey was predeceased by a son, Anthony Pelkey, who died in 2002, a daughter, Juanita Flahive who died in 1996, and two grandsons, Christopher Pelkey who died in 1996, and Rob Lawton, who also died in 1996.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Diane Pelkey of Hudson, N.H., and Dean and Claudia Pelkey of Wilton, N.H.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and William Pygon of Greene, N.Y, and Doreen Pelkey of Milford, N.H.; a brother and a sister-in-law, Thomas and Beverly Pelkey of Rescue, Va.; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great- grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 27 Library St., Hudson. All are asked to meet at the church. Viewing hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 21, at the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry St., Hudson.
Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Hudson.
