Martha Louise Jeffries, age 71, died Dec. 18,2006, in Prescott. She was born Sept. 28, 1935. in Valley Mills, Texas, the daughter of Hugo and Luella (Gloff) Landgraf of Valley Mills, Texas.
Martha grew up on a farm near Valley Mills. She attended Valley Mills High School, where she starred ,in girls' basketball for three years. After graduating from high school, Martha moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and worked for the First National .Bank. While living in Fort Worth, she met her husband, Paul G. Jeffries.
Martha and Paul were married in Clifton, Texas, on Jan. 25,1958. While Paul attended the University of Texas in Austin Martha worked for the Texas State Comptroller, Robert S. Calvert. After Paul graduated from the University of Texas, they moved to California, where Martha continued her career in banking. Martha loved the banking business and worked for the First National Bank of San Jose, Calif., (which later became the Bank of the West) for more than 20 years. She started as the secretary to the branch manager and when she left the bank in 1982, she was a loan officer.
Martha was also an avid golfer. She played golf for about 25 years before giving it up.
After retiring, Paul and Martha moved to Prescott in December 1995.
Paul and Martha have been members of the American Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1996. Martha, her parents and brother were Lutherans and she was a member of the Lutheran Church all of her life.
She loved her family more than anything. She will be missed until we are together again in Heaven with our Lord.
Martha is survived by her husband, Paul, of 48 years; two aunts, Pauline Walsleben of Valley Mills, Texas, and Ruby Lillian Howard of Fort Worth, Texas; and several cousins.
Private graveside services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Heritage Memorial Gardens on Fain Road in Dewey.
