Joe Smith, 46, a longtime Flagstaff resident and father of 3, was killed in a car accident in Concord, CA on Tuesday, October 25, 2011. He moved here in the early 1990s with his former wife Belinda. They have three children, Joseph, Daniel and Monique.
Joe had spent the past several weeks laying to rest his two older brothers, Jerry and Lenny Smith, and was headed home to his family in Arizona when fate took him through Concord on Tuesday afternoon.
That circumstance made Smith's death even more heart-wrenching: He was exiting a freeway off-ramp when a parolee fleeing from police smashed into his car, killing the 46-year-old father of three. Joe was a loving father and a great friend to a lot of people in Flagstaff. The former high school track star was often referred to as "49er Joe" by his friends due to his love of his hometown San Francisco 49ers.
The services for Joe will be held in two places. There will be a service in Pittsburgh, CA this Thursday at 10:00 AM for his family and friends in the San Francisco Bay area. There will be a local service in Flagstaff on this Sunday at 1:00 PM at Porky's Pub, 2285 E. Butler Avenue.
