Jack Gordon Strange, born in Harrington, Kansas on June 2, 1925, passed peacefully to greet his lord on Dec. 27, 2006.
He was preceded by his late wife, Joyce (Pendleton) Strange; sisters: Barbara Clauss, Lyndel Halbert, and Juanita Strange; and stepson Robert Dufur.
He is survived by his wife, Sylva (Hunt) Strange; children Harrol, Darrol, Sherry, and Brian Strange; stepchildren Donald Dufur and Shelly Ellis; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he dearly loved; and many friends, horseshoe buddies, senior softball players and square dancers.
Jack was an avid athlete and was well-known for his ability to pitch a shoe and throw a softball in the senior softball league for as long as he could. He was also a competitive racquetball player who had some mean matches against Sandra Day O' Conner and any young kids who thought they could beat the "old man." Jack participated in several Senior Olympics events and won medals for horseshoes and, racquetball.
He was very proud of the fact that he trained new apprentice plumbers at Motorola 52nd St. in Phoenix for over 28 years, and also of the fact that as a young golden gloves boxer he once sparred with Sugar Ray Robinson. Sugar convinced Jack to be a plumber.
We will all miss him dearly.
God Speed, My Love.
