Marion Page Wakenigg, born Dec. 3, 1917, in Biddeford, Maine, died Sept. 27, 2006, in Hendersonville, N.C. Marion, a resident of Prescott since 1953, moved to North Carolina recently to be near her family.
Marion was raised in Maine and Connecticut by her paternal grandmother after losing her parents in the flu pandemic of l918.
Marion married John Wakenigg in 1937 in Connecticut. They resided there until their move to Prescott, where they purchased land and built a home on what is now Prescott Canyon Estates.
Marion was a realtor for Harriet Bannister Realty, but her proudest accomplishment was that of Red Cross ambulance driver during WW II. Marion was a member of the American Legion and the VFW auxiliaries. She was an avid golfer and bowler, enjoying playing into her 80’s.
Marion is survived by her son, Richard (Cathy) Wikenigg of Horseshoe, N.C.; grandsons Mickey, Ricky (Laura) and Randy (Heather) Wakenigg of Georgia and Justin (Michelle) Wood of Peoria, Ariz.; longtime daugnter-in-law, Jo Beth Keegan Wakenigg and eight great-grandchildren, all of Georgia; and brother Arthur West Page of Florida.
She is also survived by many friends who, along with her family, will forever miss this truly remarkable woman.
Marion's husband, John, and daughters Joann and Barbara preceded her in death.
Family services were held on Sunday, Oct. 1, in North Carolina, with private internment in Milford, Connecticut.
A celebration of Marion's life will be held in Prescott in late October.
Memorials in Marion’s name may be made to the Yavapai Humane Society or the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 6.
