BURKHART, Mary D.

Mary D. Burkhart, 75, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend left us for a better place on January 25, 2004. Born in Scott Mississippi, raised and educated in Arkansas, she moved to Tucson, Arizona to begin her adult life. After marriage and raising her three children, she pursued a distinguished 25-year career with the Arizona Department of Economic Security. Retirement fueled her spirit of community service, exemplified by her work as a docent for the Tempe Historical Museum. She was a doting grandmother to her seven grandchildren, enjoyed travel, reading and gardening. Her children Kevin (Lidia) Burkhart - Gilbert, Patti (Steve) Skarphol - Phoenix, and Keith (Sherlyn) Burkhart of Dallas Texas and a sister Fran Snyder also of Texas, survive her. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to support the Tempe Historical Museum in her memory. A memorial service was held Friday January 30, at Word of Grace Church, Mesa, Arizona. Meldrum Mortuary handled the arrangements. Published in the Arizona Republic on 1/28/2004.
