Joseph Alcantara, 73, beloved husband of Marilyn Alcantara passed away at home January 28, 2004 in Sun City West, AZ after a long illness.
He was born May 6, 1930 in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania.
He had worked several years at Pittsburgh Plate Glass, and was a private business owner. He retired from Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp Brackenridge, PA in 1992 after 28 years, coming to AZ in 1994. He was predeceased by his parents, Lena and Frank Alcantara of Brackenridge, PA. Besides his wife of 26 years, he is survived by his brother Frank (Laura) of Glendora, CA and Robert of San Diego, CA. his daughters, Vicky Sherman (Anthony) of Rena Lara, MS, Sharon Lucas (James) of Piggott, AR, and Gay Kreinbrink (Donald) of Jackson, MS a stepson Craig Lombardi of Tarentum, PA and a stepdaughter Candice DeRose (Joseph) of Brackenridge, PA. He had 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and several aunts, nieces and nephews.
Joseph served in the USMC during the Korean Conflict at the Chosin Reservoir, left the service as S/SGT, after receiving the Purple Heart, the Navy commendation medal, a good conduct medal and numerous other medals and citations. His dedication to and love of the USMC never waned in 54 years.
He was a national and local member of the Chosin Few Band of Fraternal Brothers. His sense of humor and love of family and friends will be missed.
A memorial service with military honors was held at Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel, 13738 Camino del Sol, Sun City West, AZ on Sat 1-31-04 following cremation. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sun Health Hospice Care Services, 12740 N. Plaza del Rio Blvd. Peoria, AZ 85381 or Volunteers for Hospice, 10404 W. Coggins Dr. Suite #110, Sun City, AZ 85375, or a charity of choice.
A memorial service will also be held at a later date in Natrona Heights, PA.
