Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Friday, November 18, 2011 - Lena Madeline (Carter) Reeves passed away the first week of November 2011, in Las Vegas, Nev. Madeline, as she was known, was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Mosteim, Tenn., to Lena Maude and Lee Carter. She is survived by her son, Steven Gale (Loria) Reeves; daughter, Shelley Jane Reeves; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all residing in Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Luther Barnes; of Elwood, Ind.; and sister, Marie (Jay) Barnes Cole; of Desert Hills; plus several nieces and nephews in California and Indiana. Madeline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Gale; three brothers; and one sister. Madeline and Gale moved to Southern California from Indiana in 1943. Gale had a 32-year career as a deputy sheriff of San Bernadino County. When he retired, they moved from San Bernadino to Black Meadow Landing, Calif., residing there until 1985 when they moved to Desert Hills. Madeline became very active in the community and belonged to the Desert Hills Fire Dept. Auxiliary, Desert Hills Fire District Association, the Havasu Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Lakeview Community Church. As a member of the Fire Dept. Auxiliary, she kept the tables clean, set-up the pancake breakfasts from 1986-2009 and helped sort and sell items at each of the community garage sales. She attended all meetings of the DHFD Association, often supplying snacks to accompany the coffee. Private services took place at an LDS church in Las Vegas, Nev., Nov. 12.
