Rey (Ashbrook) announces her passing on June 11, 2007. Surrounded by her family, at home, she peacefully began a new journey in Christ. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., on Oct. 22, 1917, Edith moved to Gallup, N.M., as a young girl. After graduating from the University of New Mexico and moving to Arizona, she spent 27 years doing what she loved as a teacher in Tucson, Ariz. Her retirement years allowed her to travel, do crossword puzzles every day and keep her hands busy doing needlework. She covered us with love and afghans, sweaters and pictures. Her hats cover heads from Washington State to Florida. Celebrating her life is her loving husband of 50 years Phillip. Surviving are her brother Jim Clark of Pawcutuck, Rhode Island; her daughter, Sharon Burnes (Don) of Scottsdale; and her sons, Vern Ashbrook (Helen) of Tennessee and Tom Ashbrook of New Mexico. She had 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Olive Rico and Clara Young Whitaker, a former long-time resident of Prescott. Many nieces and a nephew also survive. We will miss this wonderful woman immensely. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Muscular Dystrophy or the Special Olympics. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 18, at The Hampton Funeral Home, 240 S. Cortez St., Prescott, Ariz. Hampton Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
