LARKIN, Richard Lyle

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, June 17, 2007 Richard Lyle Larkin, born Oct. 20, 1921, passed away June 4, 2007. He was the beloved husband of Virginia M. Larkin to whom he was married for 65 years, and loving father of Susan Corwin , Janis Cosgrove and Beth Curtis; adored grandfather of Michael, Ryan and Matthew Cosgrove; Jenna Corwin Moscoso and David Corwin. A longtime Prescott resident, Richard passed away quietly in his sleep. He was born in Pontiac, Mich., and raised in Northville, Mich. Richard's older brother Harry, a hero of Omaha Beach, predeceased him; his sister Verna Thompson lives in Garden City, Mich. Richard served in the US Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Dick's varied interests included all sports, especially baseball, and, in later years, slow-pitch ball in the Prescott Senior Softball League. He had been an avid golfer, winning several amateur trophies, and in the early '70s, he learned to pilot an airplane. In 1981, he and Virginia acquired horses, and they enjoyed taking part in many parades and trail rides with friends. Dick was a past president of the Prescott Saddle Club. Singing was one of his favorite accomplishments. He was a member of the Prescottones and of the United Methodist Church choir – and truly enjoyed singing with a quartet comprised of church members, aptly named the Chancel Four. Virginia was the love of his life, and he always credited everything they shared to her love and understanding. He is now happily reunited with his father, who died when Richard was only 7; his two sisters who died in early childhood; and a very loving, dedicated mother. A celebration of Dick's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday June 23, 2007, at the Prescott United Methodist Church in Prescott. The family suggests memorials to Prescott United Methodist Church for either the Chancel Choir Fund or MYF, 505 W. Gurley, Prescott, Ariz., 86301. Information provided by survivors.
