Andy Boquet, a professional pilot, accomplished writer, devoted husband and loving father, died tragically in a plane crash on Oct. 18. He was 62.
Born in New York City to Andrew and Eleanor Boquet, Andy dreamed of being a pilot as a young child.
With hard work, perseverance and many jobs, he attended and graduated from the University of Notre Dame. While home on summer break in 1965, he met Cheryl Walden, of Saugus, Calif. They eventually married and enjoyed a happy and loving marriage for 38 years.
Commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, Andy began a career that would span 23 years of Active and Reserve duty, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. His Marine Corps service included a brief tour in Vietnam and thousands of hours flown in various military jets.
In 1981, he left Active Duty and joined Southwest Airlines, where he flew until his retirement in 2004.
Andy's interest and later passion for aviation safety began early in his flying career. This passion grew from the simple desire to cherish human life. His personal mantra, "Do no harm," influenced everything Andy did. His ability to turn words into poetry and chaos into calm affected everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be dearly missed.
Andy is survived by his wife, Cheryl, whom he loved dearly; sons Matthew (Susan) and Zac; brothers Mike and Robbie; and sisters Cathy, Melanie and Patrice.
