James H. Whorl, 80, of Buckeye died Nov. 20, 2011, in Goodyear.
Mr. Whorl was born March 29, 1931, in York, Pa., to Oscar and Anna. He married his wife, Charlotte Jones, in Norman, Okla., on July 4, 1951, and moved to Arizona in 1976.
He attained the rank of chief master sergeant while serving in personnel management in the Air Force, and retired as personnel director for the state of Arizona. He worked for Maricopa County, the Arizona Department of Transportation, the Department of Economic Security and the Department of Administration.
He was a volunteer with the Red Cross at Luke Air Force Base Hospital, and was a member of the Roadrunners.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Charlotte; three daughters, Sandra, Karen and Sally; two sons, Scott and Kevin; two brothers, Jack and Glenn; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today at Thompson's Valley West Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road in Goodyear. A burial with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 10045 W. Thomas Road in Avondale.
