Charlotte Ann Osenton Workman, 75, of Sun City West, Az passed away at Phoenix Baptist Hospital on January 28, 2004. Charlotte was born in Marfrance, West Virginia on October 1, 1928 to Jennings and Lou (Cline) Osenton. After graduating from Man High School, Man, W. Va in 1946 she married James E. Workman in Logan, West Virginia. Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Nancy Lou Dunnington (Jeff), Palm Springs, Ca and her son, James E. Workman, Jr. (Lorna), Wickenburg, Az. Charlotte was grandmother to 6 and great-grandmother to 2. Charlotte is survived by her brothers, Charles W. Osenton (Mary), Raytown MO and Owen L. Osenton (Phyllis) of Logan, W. Va. She was preceded in death by husband James in 1989, and sister Janice White in 1997. In 1954, Charlotte and James relocated from West Virginia to Burbank, Ca. While her husband completed his education to become a teacher, Charlotte began her employment with the Lockheed Aircraft Corp. In 1959, the family moved to Palm Springs, Ca where James became a longtime educator and Charlotte began her career in the stock securities industry. She worked for Shearson, Hammill as a wire operator and then executive secretary to the manager. She passed her brokers exam and became a limited registered broker. Charlotte then accepted a position with Merrill Lynch as an executive assistant to four brokers, followed by her promotion to head cashier to the Palm Springs office. In addition to her career she was a leader of boys and girls scout troops and campfire girls. She was active in the PTA, and her children's many activities. She was a member of the Phi Gamma Gamma Professional Sorority. Charlotte's true happiness was being a wonderful homemaker, mother and grandmother. In 1994, Charlotte retired and moved to Sun City West. She loved the desert and her home and became active in the Shepherd of the Hills, United Methodist Church, Christian Women's Club, Trailride 7 Friendship Group and past member of the foundation board at SHUMC. Home, family and friends were Charlotte's true passion and she excelled at them all. You were always greeted by her wonderful smile, an interest in your life, and a spirit that was infectious to all who came to know and love her. Charlotte had elegance, charm, warmth, boundless optimism, and an unbridled passion life and for the Arizona Diamondbacks and the USC Trojans. Based on Charlotte's experience and wisdom she was always ready to listen and give help to whoever sought her advice. She was a great wife, partner, mother, grandmother, friend and mentor who's lasting impression was that of humor, joy and happiness and a smile and laugh that lit up a room. Services were held at the Chapel in the Shepherd of the Hills, United Methodist Church, 13658 Meeker Boulevard, Sun City West, AZ. Her wish is that donations be made in her memory to the Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014. Published in the Arizona Republic on 2/1/2004.
