The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 11/29/2011 Leonard J. Schlesinger, 68, of Nutrioso died Nov.19, 2011, at the Tucson Medical Center. He was born July 18, 1943, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Leonard was a husband, true love, hero, best friend to Cathleen Marie (nee McGuire); father of Jennifer Lynn Proctor, David Louis Schlesinger, and Rachael Leah Bartholomeaux; grandfather of five. Leonard retired from the Tucson Police Department after 24 years; he was a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran; plank owner and earned his dolphins aboard USS590 Sculpin. He was a wildland and structural fire fighter, EMT, fire-search-rescue at Grand Canyon NP and Buenos Aires Refuge, a US Coast Guard Auxiliary Coxswain and certified instructor. He always tried to do the right thing no matter the cost to himself. He is survived by his wife, Cathleen Marie of Nutrioso; his mother Janet (Goldman); a son David L. of Tucson; and daughters Jennifer L. (Douglas) Proctor, Jennifer L. (Douglas) Proctor both of Chandler. He was preceded in death by his father Louis; and brother Robert. Private services will be held. Donations are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis Tenn.
