CONTRERAS, Jose Francisco


Silver Creek Mortuary, Taylor, Arizona Jose Francisco Contreras passed away at his home in Show Low, Arizona on November 23, 2011 at the age of 42. He was born on July 10, 1969 in Guatemala City to the late Jose Contreras and Ana Estrada Munoz. Jose was a determined young boy who opened up many doors for him and his family. He was a member of the boy scouts of Guatemala and enjoyed playing sports, mainly soccer. He enjoyed music and also enjoyed traveling and was able to see many places and enjoyed every minute of it. At the age of 13 he became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When he was 16 he moved to Snowflake to be with his mom. Jose was an entrepreneur. He worked at Smith moulding for many years and also worked at the Pontiac, GMC, Nissan dealership. He was very involved with the community and worked in the head start program. Jose was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings, such as a Sunday school teacher, and as a counselor in the Elders Quorum in the Taylor Stake. He moved to Show Low in the late 90’s where he served as the president of the Spanish Branch. He loved the gospel and loved to serve in his church, always willing to help those less fortunate. His last calling in the Church was as a ward missionary. Jose was a loving Father to his children and an excellent role model. He enjoyed music and also enjoyed traveling which allowed him to see many places and he enjoyed every minute of it. He is survived by his mother Ana Munoz, and Step father Joaquin Munoz of Taylor, Two Brothers Anibal (Susan) Contreras of New York, Victor (Jennifer) of Taylor and one sister Norma (Wilfer) Lopez of Taylor and his three sons Joshua, Allen and Christian of Show Low. He was preceded in death by his father and all of his grandparents. A public viewing will be held on Friday December 2, 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Silver Creek Mortuary at 745 Paper Mill Rd. in Taylor, AZ. A viewing will also be held at 9:00 am on Saturday December 3, 2011 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Centennial Building at 880 N. Centennial Boulevard in Taylor, with funeral services following at 10:00 am. He will be laid to rest at the Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery in Taylor, Arizona.
