Copper Basin News Hayden, Az. 30 Nov. 2011 Candido S. Varela, 89, beloved by family, friends and all who knew him, joined our Heavenly Father on Friday, November 18, 2011 at his home in Dudleyville, AZ with his wife Maria Gloria by his side. Candido was born on March 5, 1922 in Winkelman, the son of Pablo and Romana (Soto) Varela. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; his son, Julio; daughter, Vanessa; three grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Aurora Lopez, along with numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. In 1942 He enlisted in the Army. He served in World War II; where he received a Medal for Bravery for risking his life to save others. Candido worked at Asarco in Hayden as a Smelter Repairman. He worked for Asarco for 37 years. He later retired in 1984. Candido loved going camping during the summers with his Family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Services for Mr. Varela were held Friday, Nov. 25, with the Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hayden and the visitation and Rosary immediately preceding.
