FINAL WISHES OF LEONARD YOUNG ARE FULFILLED
The wish, expressed before he died, that he should be buried on a knoll overlooking the house in which he lived, in which he had been raised and married and where he had spent many happy days, and the desire that a lifelong friend should officiate at his funeral services, were fulfilled by relatives when Leonard Young, 60, Camp Verde pioneer, was interred on a small hill on his own property, that overlooks his late homestead and Tom Jones of Clarkdale assisted at the services.
Young was born in London, Canada, in 1870 and came to Camp Verde, at that time a military stronghold, with his parents, two years later. His mother, known to the soldiers whom she nursed during those early trying days, as "Grandma," was one of the most beloved residents of that district from the day she arrived there until the day of her death in 1905.
Just two years before his mother's death, Young married Mary Irene Hopper, sister of Miss Laura Hopper, county school superintendent, with offices here.
Besides his widow the deceased is survived by two sons, Lyle L., 22,and Robert Roy, 12; two brothers, Tom and George H., two nephews, George V. and Nils Young, all of Camp Verde and his sister-in-law, Miss Hopper.
Rev. Arthur Kidd of the Camp Verde Methodist church, and Tom Jones officated at the services, with G. E. McMillen, Jerome undertaken in charge of arrangements. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. N.A. Vyne, Mrs. Emma Frailey and Alden J. Mosher, accompanied by Miss Ellen Warfel.
Pall bearers included Irvin H. Walker, Ernest Richard, J.L. Wall, Harry Wingfield and Dave and Eral Hopper.
Miss Hopper stated that all friends of the family were wonderful during their bereavement.
