The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Monday January 23, 1967, page 13 Man Escapes Flames, Goes Back In, and Dies Burton – A 54 year resident of this small community near Holbrook died Saturday night when trapped in a fire in his home. Arthur Allen Burton, 70, a retired carpenter, had been roused by the blaze along with his wife, Kathryn. They escaped, witnesses said, but Burton attempted to retrieve something from the flaming home and could not get out again. Cause of the fire was not immediately determined. Burton was born in Greenburg, Kan. He served in the 109th Engineer Corps in France under General Pershing in WW I. He was a member of the American Legion and the Burton Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Burton Cemetery. The American Legion Funeral Committee will officiate. Surviving are his wife Kathryn, three sons, Dean, of Reseda, Calif., Jesse, of Globe, and Carl, of Snowflake; a daughter, Mrs. LaVerne Ray, of Phoenix, two brothers and two sisters, all living out of state; and ten grandchildren.
