West Valley View, Avondale, AZ Tuesday, December 06, 2011 Everett "David" Ortiz Sr., 60, of Avondale died Dec. 1, 2011, at his home. Mr. Ortiz was born April 27, 1951, in San Jose, Calif., to Evaristo Valentine and Guadalupe "Lupe" Romero. He moved to Arizona in 1961. He graduated from Agua Fria High School in Avondale, and then moved back to San Jose to start his family. Five years later, he returned to Arizona and worked with Waste Management in the Southwest Valley. He was a born-again Christian. He is survived by one daughter, Erika Diane Rodriguez of Watsonville, Calif., one grandchild; his mother, Lupe, and step-father, Jesus Gonzales of Avondale; four sisters, Helen Silva, Irene Escobar, Dorothy Ramirez and Yolanda; and one brother, Domingo. Visitation was Monday. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today at Thompson's Valley West Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road in Goodyear. Burial will follow at West Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Ave. in Glendale. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org/donate.
