COUGHRAN, Katie

Newspaper Unknown April 1915 Katie Coughran Passes Away Sad and surprising was the news received from Humboldt yesterday that Miss Katie Coughran had succumbed to appendicitis after an illness of five weeks. It was hoped she would recover, and her many relatives and friends were rejoicing as her condition was reported to be favorable even up to Friday at noon. This young lady had submitted to two operations and her condition was watched with an interest in which many were hopeful that she might be spared. She had been a teacher of public schools in this county for over a quarter of a century, winning the love of all, and enjoying a capability that gave her distinction as one of the brilliant young women of the county. "I will soon retire, and this season will be my last one." she informed friends only a short time ago, referring to her desire to be placed on the pension roll, not for the pecuniary benefits, but to transfer the duty to others who were just entering the profession. Miss Coughran was graced with a beautiful character and a personality that made her beloved by parents and pupils alike. She is survived by her parents, Captain and Mrs. J. W. Coughran, respected pioneer residents of Skull valley, her brothers, Edward, Robert, Wilbur, Wiley and Charles Coughran and a sister. Mrs. Lena Sears, of Miami, this state. The remains were brought to Ruffner's mortuary parlors yesterday. The funeral will be held from there today and interment will take place in Mountain View cemetery.
