Richard Lavar Skousen, 51, of Chino Valley, Ariz., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer. Rick was born on June 23, 1960, in Mesa, Ariz., into the family of Lavar and Jeannine Skousen.
A few years later, Rick's family moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., where Rick grew up and spent most of his life. He attended Flagstaff public schools and graduated from Coconino High School in 1978. Rick was a plumber by trade and an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, hiking, fishing and hunting with his many friends.
He was the big brother to his six siblings, Jerilyn Skousen Figueroa, Kevin, Curtis, Darrin, Scott and Stephanie Skousen Prestwich. Rick had an infectious smile, a kind heart and a quiet demeanor. Rick was blessed to belong to an incredibly committed, supportive and loving family. He will be sorely missed.
He is separated from us for a while, but we know there is a plan that allows families to be together forever.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at the Chino Valley Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 441 W Perkinsville Road. Interment will be at the Chino Valley Cemetery.
Chino Valley Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements. Please visit www.heritagefuneralchapels.com to sign Richard's guestbook and share memories.
