Services for Jack Whitney well-known Prescott resident will be conducted at the United Methodist Church Monday, April 17 at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Lloyd Ewart and the Rev. Merle Heatwole will be officiating.
Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Whitney came to Prescott from Peoria in 1925 and went into business for himself in 1935 when he purchased the Old Mill which he operated the remainder of his life.
He was well known in racing circles throughout the state having at various times in his career ridden, owned and trained horses. He was an honorary member of the Prescott High School letterman's club and sponsored the annual ‘football feed.’ He held memberships in the Elks Lodge # 330 of Prescott as well as the Smoki People and the Yavapai County Sheriff's Posse.
In 1954 he was awarded the Prescott Father of the Year award, and was the initial recipient of the Prescott Jaycees Citizen of the Year Award. In 1964 the Prescott Qantas Club voted him the most Thoughtful Citizen of the Year Award.
He was born in Piedmont, Mo. September 13, 1906 and he came to Arizona with his family as a child and remained here his entire life.
He is survived by his wife Lucille of Prescott, his father-in-law M. A. White of Prescott; four daughters, Mrs. Ted Allen, of Prescott, Mrs. Paul Rice, Scottsdale, Mrs. Jack Mahan, Mrs. Brian Simpson of Phoenix and 11 grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Ruffner Funeral Home Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Yavapai Chapter, Cancer Society, 930 Black Dr., Prescott.
