KINCAID, Rosetta (Rose)

(Maiden Name: Hamilton)

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 12/16/2011 Rose Kincaid, 82, died peacefully Dec. 7, 2011, at the Eckstein unit of Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale after suffering complications from peripheral artery disease. Rose was born in 1929 in Sidney, Ohio to Howard Hamilton and his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Gates) and was later adopted by Charles E. Brown and Hazel M. Brown of nearby Dayton, Ohio, where she grew up. She married Donald Kincaid in 1951. In 1958, they moved to Phoenix for the health of their 6-year-old son, Dan. Her husband died in 1983. For many years, Rose worked in the Valley as a technician at Sperry Rand and later at Honeywell. She greatly enjoyed working with the aeronautical engineers at those plants and won the respect of her colleagues for the quality of her efforts. After retiring, she moved to Show Low in 1995 to live in a small house in the woods where she could enjoy the beauty of the tall trees and the quiet of nature. Her companion was her beloved dog, Scarlett, a soft-coated Wheaten terrier. In the summer of 2002, Rose had a big adventure: She had to evacuate her home because of the advancing Rodeo-Chediski Fire and took refuge for eight days with a kindly family in Eagar. Although an extremely private and "fiercely independent" person, Rose was a good and generous neighbor who went out of her way to help others. She always tried to treat all people equally and with respect. As her health declined, many wonderful neighbors gave her assistance, for which she was grateful. Rose was an inveterate reader of both fiction and non-fiction of all kinds. She loved painting and sculpture. She felt deeply akin to nature and animals, especially dogs and horses. She was also keenly interested in Native American culture, history and values. "This translation of a line from a Navajo poem sums up our appreciation of her life and beauty: "It is finished in beauty. It is finished in beauty. It is finished in beauty. It is finished in beauty." Thank you, Rose. Thank you, Rose Mom." Rose is survived by her son, Dan, and his wife, Jane, of Phoenix. Rose did not request services. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Valley or the Humane Society of the White Mountains.
