Lois Merritt Ward, 91, passed away in Tucson, Ariz., on Dec. 5, 2011.
Lois was born in Kinder, La., and moved to Prescott at age 12. She was predeceased by her parents, Harold B. Merritt and Clarence Constance Merritt. Her husband Donald E. Ward, children Harold David and Carolyna, brothers Charles and Fred Merritt and sister Pauline Colcord also predeceased her.
She is survived by sisters Grace Merritt and Claribel Pippin, brother Bruce Merritt; daughter Sue D. Cox and her husband Laddie Cox; grandchildren Virginia Crane (Ned) and Dr. Sharon Mullis (Jim); son Donald E. Ward, his wife Cathy, and grandchildren Will (Jennifer), Mary, Melissa and Amy; and five great-grandchildren.
Lois attended Prescott High School. She graduated from Prescott College and the University of Phoenix. She was active with her political party and civic affairs, and was a life member of the 99s, a flying organization for women. She was a recipient of the Hon Kachina award in 1997 to honor her many service accomplishments.
Graveside services have taken place. A celebration of her life will be in the early summer.
