CARLSON, Dale Stanford


Dale Stanford Carlson passed away June 3, 2007, in Lincoln City, Oregon. He was 87 years old. Mr. Carlson was born in 1919 to Herman R. Carlson and Annie F. Carlson (Mell) in Duluth, Minn. Dale enlisted in the Army and served in Europe during World War II and received two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. After the war, Dale returned to Southern California where he started the Carlson Manufacturing Company, which specialized in making custom-made furniture. Customers included celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra. In 1967, Dale moved his family to Kingman and in 1985 retired from the Kingman Police Department as the Animal Control Officer. Dale was a handyman and could fix almost anything. He continued working throughout his "retirement" helping people in appliance and home repairs. Dale was also active in community affairs and helped establish the Butler Sociables; a non-profit organization whose proceeds went to local charities. He was also elected and served as chairman of the Board of Commissioners for the Hualapai Valley Fire Department. In 2001, he and his wife moved to Lincoln City to live closer to his daughter. He continued with his passion for woodworking even from his wheelchair, making step stools, beautiful boxes and glass float stands. Dale is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy; his son, Daryll (Thea) of Alta Loma, Calif.; and his daughters, Dalene Kirkbride and Dolores (Rudy) Blum of Lincoln City. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A celebration of Dale's life was held on Fathers Day, June 17, at 1511 SW Harbor Ave. in Lincoln City.
