Samuel Carr Loomis, Sr, 72, of Rosedale, Ind. died at 3:35 pm Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 at his residence. He retired from the Indiana Department of Corrections at Putnamville as a correctional officer. He was born Sept. 7, 1939 in Indianapolis, Ind. to the late Derald Seagers Loomis, Sr. and Margaret Mary Graham Loomis. He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Joyce J. Markham Loomis who he married May 30, 1968 in Lomita, Calif. Other survivors include three sons Martin (Tanya) Edgley and Edward Edgley both of Lomita, Calif., Sam (Trish) Loomis, Jr. of Rosedale, Ind.; two daughters Kathi (Donald) Andrews of Parker, Ariz. Sandra (Rick) Phillips of Rosedale, Ind.; one brother Charles Loomis of Rosedale, Ind.; one sister Daisy Palmer of Texas; fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother Derald Loomis, Jr. He served his country in the United States Army, Navy and Marines. He was a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church. He was a member of the last graduating class of Bridgeton High School in 1959 and was a member of the American Legion Tony Kashon Post# 290 in Rosedale. He enjoyed fishing.
Services took place on Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home, 287 N. Main Street, Rosedale, with Pastor Perry Mager and Sam Loomis, Jr. officiating. Burial with military graveside honors followed in Rosedale Cemetery with American Legion Tony Kashon Post 290 officiating. Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 11, at Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home.
