FERING, Marshall R.


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Thursday, December 15, 2011 - Marshall R. Fering passed away peacefully Dec. 10, 2011 in Lake Havasu City. Marshall was born on April 5, 1922, in Stephen, Minn., to Martin and Ragna Fering. As a young man, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and later served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific from 1942-1945. He married Ardell Paulson Dec. 28, 1949, and had one son, Loren. He was an avid runner for many years and enjoyed all outdoor sports. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington, Iowa, and retired from the Burlington Hawk-Eye, Iowa’s oldest newspaper. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all. Surviving are his wife, Ardell; son, Loren (Martha), in Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Christopher, in Seattle, Wash., and Erica in Iowa City, Iowa; sister, Mae Ion, in Hudson, Wis.; and brother, Glen Fering, in East Grand Forks, Minn. Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Wanda Remme, Bette Peterson, Ruby Eide, Margaret Scharmer; and brothers, Milton Fering and Kenneth Fering. As were his wishes, his body was cremated and a memorial service will take place at a later date. Condolences may be sent to Ardell Fering, P.O.
