WHITING, Ian Mark


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Sunday, December 18, 2011 Ian Mark Whiting, 54, of Tempe and Flagstaff, died peacefully at the Olivia White Hospice in Flagstaff on Saturday, December 10 with his wife, Linda, at his side. He was born December 16, 1956 in Plymouth, England and came to St. Helena, CA in 1957 with his parents. When he was young, he spent endless hours hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He graduated from Walla Walla University in 1980 and went on to work as an engineer for Tektronix, Motorola and Orbital Sciences. His passions in life were his wife, his work, his friends, his house, his cars and his photography. He will be remembered for his commitment to family, his professional diligence, his love of exploring out-of-the way places, his keen vision for photographic images and his wry sense of humor. He and Linda traveled widely with his work, visiting China, Russia and Europe, and with their shared love of artistic expression, especially enjoying the canyon country of Utah, the mountains of Colorado and the roads around the peaks. Mark is survived by his wife, Linda, and his sister, Caroline, of Lincoln, Nebraska. Their cat, Stella, will miss him greatly. A private funeral service is pending, with a public memorial service to be held after the first of the year in Flagstaff.
