Carol Jeanne Maslansky, Ph.D., DABT, 62, of Prescott, Ariz., died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at YRMC from complications of her courageous battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Carol grew up in New York State and moved to her Granite Mountain home in 1996. She was a 1971 graduate of SUNY-Cortland.
Carol was awarded her doctorate in pathology and toxicology from New York Medical School and worked internationally for many years as a consulting industrial toxicologist. She authored numerous professional papers and training manuals, and with her husband co-authored two textbooks dealing with hazardous substances. She was recognized in Who's Who of American Women, in Medicine and Healthcare, in Science and Engineering, in the West, in America, and in the World.
She was an enthusiastic dog handler and competed and judged nationally in dog agility. She was most proud of her work as a Delta Society Therapy Dog Partner and founding member of the therapy dog program at YRMC.
She shared her passion for collecting minerals with her husband of 38 years Steve. Her brother Dennis and sister-in-law Nadalina of Panama City, Fla.; her brother-in-law Harris and sister-in-law Jayne of White Plains, N.Y.; niece Cynthia; and nephews Sean, David, Michael and Scott also survive Carol.
