MAGAñA, Arthur (Archie)


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Tuesday, December 20, 2011 Arthur "Archie" Magaña, Sr. died Thursday surrounded by his loving family. Archie was born to Jose and Vivian Magaña on June 1, 1938 and passed away December 15, 2011 at the age of 73. Mr. Magaña was born and raised in Flagstaff Arizona. He attended South Beaver Elementary and graduated from Flagstaff High School while serving as a Specialist in the United States Army during the Korean War. Once his tour of duty was complete, Archie started his family in 1960 at the same time he was attending Northern Arizona University while also starting his career with the Arizona Department of Transportation where he worked until his retirement. Archie also held a second job during this time with Babbitt's Department Store in the Pharmacy working to achieve his purchase of the popular Zig Zags Lounge where he introduced the first Teen nights for local teens in our community, as well as the weekly Tardeada on Sunday afternoon promoting fun for the entire family. Archie owned Zig Zags from 1975 to 1980 located in east Flagstaff. Prior to his recent retirement, Archie was working as a private contractor for Consultant Engineering, Inc. (CEI) throughout Southwestern Arizona providing Construction Management services. Archie was very active, he enjoyed his daily walks, working out and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren of which he was extremely proud. Grandpa was a kind, gentle and loving man extending his family and love to adopted children and grandkids whom loved him dearly. Preceded in death by both his parents, his brother - Joe Magaña, Jr; his sister - Rose Montoya and his son - Christopher Magaña. He is survived by his wife and companion Magdalena Figueroa Magaña, his three daughters; Debbie Martinez (Arnold); Rebecca VanDeWater (Rick) and Adrienne Magaña (Dennis Triano) and his four sons Vincent, Patrick (Christina), Arthur Jr.(Donna Sawyer), and Marlon Magaña (Sarah Massey) all of Phoenix, Arizona. With twentythree grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. As well as six sisters, four brothers and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 22, 2011. The service will take place at the Church on the Journey, 1303 South Lindsay Road Mesa, AZ. The family will also be planning a funeral with graveside service in his hometown of Flagstaff, Arizona where he will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
