Alvis M. Harris
Alvis M. (Smokie) Harris, 55, died Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Center here. He was born Jan. 29, 1919, in Virginia and moved to Prescott 18 years ago from there. He resided at 811 Hope St.
Mr. Harris served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He earned the Soldier's Medal for Bravery in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Prescott and affiliated with the United Methodist Church here.
He had worked for Yavapai Lumber Company for six years and was retired from the Arizona Highway Department since 1967. For the past five years, he was a self-employed trucker.
Survivors include; his widow, Margery of Prescott; two sons, David, stationed with the U.S. Navy at Norfolk, Va. and Michael of Prescott; three daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Montgomery of Honolulu, Hawaii; Mrs. June Garrison and Elizabeth Harris, both of Prescott; three grandsons; two brothers, A. C. Harris of Virginia and William of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Mrs. P. E. Spivy of Hopewell, Va., Mrs. Elizabeth Little of Norfolk, Va. and Mrs. R. D. Dudgeon of Chicago, Ill.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. ,Friday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Russell G. Hughes officiating.
Full military graveside rites will follow at Prescott National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Memory Chapel.
