Vern R. Nelson, 63, maintenance foreman for Prescott High School for the last three years, died Sunday in Phoenix after a sudden illness.
He was born Oct. 22, 1910, at Pawhusko, Okla. and had worked as a machinist in the U.S. Naval Shipyard at Long Beach, Calif. for 20 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and also the Army.
He moved to Arizona seven years ago from Long Beach and resided at 910 W. Gurley St. for the past six years.
He is survived by his widow, Marie; a son, Earl Carpenter of Sedona and one daughter, Mrs. Diane Lemmon of Oakview, Calif.; four grandchildren; one brother, Frank of Dodge City, Kan. and a sister, Mrs. Mary Hardy of Independence, Kan.
Funeral services will be held at Memory Chapel at 10 a.m. tomorrow with the Rev. Bruce Ayers officiating. Private family graveside services will be held at Prescott National Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
