The Prescott Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, April 28, 1974 Henry Lucian Dies at Whipple Henry E. Lucian, 65, died Saturday morning at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Whipple of a heart condition. Lucian was a longtime member of the Marines, the Arizona National Guard, the Elks, Bartenders local No. 279, and an employee of the Prescott Courier. He began his military career in 1925 when he enlisted with the Marines in New York City. He served in Tien Tsin as a Expeditionary Force for four years, and as a mail guard for the railroad after a large robbery at Elizabeth, N. J. In Nanagua, Nicaragua his unit helped quell riots until fighting broke out in China, the States. Lucian was discharged at San Diego. Lucian moved to Hollywood, where he spent some time driving movie stars around for Columbia Studios. Malaria Windhoek Lucian for a 90-day stay in a VA hospital in San Diego. Following his doctors advise he traveled to Helena, Montana, where he met and married his wife. He joined the Marines again in 1943 at Helena, and was sent overseas in 1944. He served with the Fourth Marine Division in the Marshal Islands. He then went to Tinian where he was listed among the wounded and missing four months. He was hospitalized for some six months, then later he was back in Helena as a member of the National Guard for two years before getting into the Arizona National Guard. For 16 years he was the Unit Administrator of Headquarters Company Third Battalion, 158th Infantry, stationed in Prescott. Lucian retired from the Guard on August 24, 1968. Lucian once said, in reference to the his military career, "If I had it to do all over again.... I would." Lucian also was a 20 year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge No. 330, and a part-time bartender there. He was a longtime member of Bartenders Local No. 279, and President of that group during 1971 and 1972. Mr. Lucian never drank alcohol. Henry Lucian was an employee of the Prescott Courier from 1971 until his death. He worked in the circulation department. He visited with older people and provided transportation for them. Survivors include his widow, Patricia; three brothers, Louis, Matthew and Ralph, all of New York state; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Rosary services are scheduled for Tuesday 7:30 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Prescott VA cemetery.
