The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, February 7, 2007 David G. Kurr, longtime resident of Prescott, returned to his Maker, Monday, February 5, 2007. He was born April 18, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He served in the British Mission in 1947 through 1949 for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and followed with military service in the U.S. Army 7th Calvary during the Korean War. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1955 and with a Bachelor of Arts degree and that some are married his sweetheart, Norma Tillman of Holbrook, Arizona, in the LDS Mesa Arizona Temple. The family moved to Prescott in 1960. He continued his education, earning his Master of Arts from BYU in 1964. He taught US government and world history at Prescott high school for 28 years he loved making government alive with field trips to the state capital and bringing numerous politicians into his classrooms. David actively served in many positions in the LDS Church from Bishopric to home teacher and with a diligent servant of The Lord. He could be counted on to always complete what he promised. He was an ordained Temple Worker. He was a dedicated Scouter in Boy Scouts of America. He was awarded the Old Capital District Award of Merit in 1988 and followed up in 1993 with the Silver Beaver by the Grand Canyon Council for his many years of service as Advancement Chairman, assisting hundreds of young men in the Prescott area to earn their Eagle Scout Award. David was active politically in the Republican Party. Serving various conservative organizations, he made his mark in local politics. He served as Precinct Committeeman for over 40 years and several years on the State Republican Committee. David was selected as a delegate to two Republican National conventions and attended President Reagan's second inauguration. He was honored to be Yavapai County Republican Man of the Year in 1991 and served many terms as President of the local Citizens Tax Committee. Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Norma; sister, Doreen Brugger; four children, Carolyn Wardle, Lisa Kurr - McMillan (Jerry), Emily Kurr, and Dave Kurr (Jennifer); and 10 grandchildren. He loves the outdoors, bowling, and particularly travel. He shared his passion for history by guiding his wife, children and even grandchildren on numerous trips across Europe and other locations across the globe. Where ever he went and Prescott he would run into someone he knew and was always affable and friendly. He was fit and active until the final weeks of his life and he will be missed by all who knew his infectious zest for life. Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at the LDS Church building at 1001 Ruth St. Viewing in the Relief Society room will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Information provided by survivors.
