ELLIOTT,
Lora Elaine
(Maiden Name: Crawford)
The White Mountain Independent,
Show Low, Arizona ~ 12/23/2011
Lora Elaine (Crawford) Elliott, 86, a resident of Pie Town, N.M. died Dec. 16, 2011, in Eagar of natural causes. Lora was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Mesilla Park, N.M. and was a maker of the home all of her days.
While attending Hardin Simons University in Abilene, she met her sweetheart, Poncho Elliott. She stood by her husband for 65 years, joining him, supporting him, and loving him through each endeavor. After too many moves to want to count, Poncho and Lora made their last move to Pie Town; at last they finally had a place of their own. There they made friends of neighbors and family of friends. Residing as a rancher's wife in Catron County, she was always ready with a hot cup of coffee, a little something sweet to go with it, and an open chair at her table.
Lora is survived by her children: Eddie, Walter, Lori, and David; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She also had many "adopted" children for she was known as "Momma Lora" by quite a few, like Jerry, Willie, Todd, Kip and a boy who stayed one summer with the Elliotts from the Boys Ranch. She is also survived by her sister, Bernice Johnson of Las Cruces, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Poncho (Oct. 20, 2011) and her second son, Rusty (in 1963 in a horse accident).
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 21, in Quemado, N.M. with interment following the services at the Pie Town Cemetery in New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Lora's honor to the NM Boys Ranch, PO Box 5000, Boys Ranch, NM 87002.
Burnham Mortuary of Eagar handled arrangements.
