The Prescott Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, May 19, 1974 John Franks Rites Tuesday John R. Franks, a former Prescott resident, died at his home, 41 E. Marlett, Phoenix, at 10 a.m. on Friday May 12 of a possible heart attack. Mr. Frank was born in Goldendale, Wash. and moved to Prescott in 1917. He attended elementary and high school and Prescott and graduated from the U of A with a law degree in 1934. He practiced law here until 1942 when he was appointed as assistant US attorney in Phoenix. In 1944 he received a Lieutenant’s commission in the Navy. Upon leaving the Navy he came to Prescott and opened a law practice with the late Charles McDaniel. During this period he also served as county attorney for Yavapai County, and two terms as state senator for Yavapai. In 1953 he returned to Phoenix to take on a position as chief counsel for the Arizona Industrial Commission. He later resigned to become Phoenix city attorney. In 1962 he became a member of the law firm of Murphy, Posner, and Franks, with whom he remained until his death. Mr. Franks was the late Sen. Carl Hayden’s campaign manager for two successful elections. He was a member of the Arizona Bar Association and served for many years as the chairman of their grievances committee. He was a member of the Valley of the Sun Kiwanis club, a past member of the Prescott Kiwanis, and past district Gov. of the Southwest Kiwanis International. He was a member and a past chief of the Smoki People a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge number 330. He was also a member of the Congregational Church. He is survived by his widow, Lena, two daughters, Gladys Montgomery of Stanford, Calif., and Pamela Joel, a student of Stanford University, a brother, Gifford Franks of Prescott, and three grandchildren. Services will be held at the church of Beatitudes, 7th Avenue and Glendale in Phoenix, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 28. Burial will follow in Phoenix.
