Carol Ann Francis died peacefully in the loving arms of family at her Flagstaff, Arizona home on December 18, 2011. She was 75.
Born September 9, 1936 in Kansas City, MO, Carol and her sister, Jane were adopted by Merrill and Naomi Mackey of Wall Lake, Iowa. Carol’s love of music began in childhood where she sang in the choir and was pianist during services at the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Carol earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Drake University in preparation for her career as an elementary school teacher. Her first job was in Santa Ana, California where she met her husband of 51 years, Albert Francis. Al and Carol resided in San Carlos, California, and had two children Alan and Ann. In 2004 following retirement, they moved to Flagstaff, Arizona.
Carol took great pleasure in helping to organize her school’s seasonal musical presentations. She also enjoyed playing the bells at Trinity Presbyterian in San Carlos. In Flagstaff, Carol volunteered as a reading aide at the Montessori school. Carol loved cooking, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. She was always eager to experience new things and places.
Carol is survived by her husband, Al; son Alan with his family, Birgit and Naomi; daughter Ann with her family, Doug and Kian.
Services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Flagstaff, AZ, on January 2, 2012, at 1:00 PM.
