Johnston, 76, of Prescott, Ariz., formerly of Syracuse, died July 26 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospice, Prescott. He was born in Solvay. He retired in 1989 as a maintenance supervisor with Arizona Pioneers' Home and was a lineman/installer 26 years for New York Telephone, Syracuse. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife of 28 years, Carol; two daughters, Ellen Johnston of Phoenix, Ariz., Theresa Mills of Lumber Bridge, N.C.; three sons, James of Syracuse, Mark of El Cajon, Calif., and William of Jacksonville, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Debra Swift of Syracuse; five sisters, Paulette Johnston of Syracuse, Agnes Schaffer of Crofton, Md., Jean Newberry of Pensacola, Fla., Mary Jane Pope of Evergreen, Ala., and Patricia Sims of Brewerton; a brother, Duncan of Brooksville, Fla.; 17 grandchildren. Services: Private. Burial, National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix. Memory Chapel, Prescott, has arrangements.
