ODOM, John Sherman


Eastside Journal, Bellevue, Washington Sunday, April 2, 2000 Former longtime Kirkland dentist, John Sherman Odom, died March 27, 2000, in Tucson, Ariz. He was 82. He was born June 9, 1917, in Portland, Ore. He grew up in Prescott, Ariz., and Portland. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941. Following his service with the military he graduated from the University of Oregon Medical School with a doctorate of dental medicine in 1951. After graduation he opened a practice in Kirkland. In 1957 he moved his practice to the Kirkland Professional Center, where he worked until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Odom was a member of the Psi Omega dental fraternity and the London Royal Academy of Medicine, and a fellow of the Pierre Frouchard Academy. He was a past president of the Kirkland Kiwanis Club, served on the City of Kirkland Board of Adjustment and other civic activities. He was also a member of Rose Hill Presbyterian Church. He played golf every week with the same group, Tuesday Morning Golf Society, for more than 30 years, and traveled with the group playing golf throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. He is survived by his wife, Hazel; daughter Leslie Betts of Puyallup; sons Bill Odom of Arizona, and David Odom of Redmond; sister Patricia of Akron, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent.
