STALLINGS, Oliver Clinton (Ollie)


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, December 27, 2011 Oliver Clinton Stallings died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Dec. 22, 2011, at the age of 97. He was born Aug. 2, 1914, on a farm outside of Enfield, N.C. He moved to Phoenix with his family in 1916 at the age of 2. Ollie graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1931 and from Phoenix College in 1933. He received his degree in business and public accounting from the University of Arizona in 1936. He then went on to become the 60th licensed CPA in the state of Arizona. He started his professional career in Prescott, Ariz., where he worked first as office manager at the local Coca-Cola bottling plant, then as a junior accountant at Harmon Audit Co. He later returned to Phoenix where he worked as a certified public accountant until he retired in 1994. For the last 25 years of his career, he was a partner at Miller Allen & Co. Ollie was also closely affiliated with Shamrock Dairy and Shamrock Foods Co., beginning in 1938. He served on their board of directors from 1961 to 2000. Ollie was also a devoted family man. He married his first wife, Barbara, in Prescott in 1941. They raised two children together and celebrated 46 years of marriage before her death in 1987. He later married Rowena, and they lived happily together for 21 years. Ollie enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, reading, travel, walking, watching sports and his dogs. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and his many business associates. Ollie was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Powell Stallings and Lucy Booth Stallings; his brothers Edward, Beverly, Jack, James and Robert Stallings; his daughter-in-law Roberta Stallings; and his first wife, Barbara Harmon Stallings. He is survived by his wife Rowena Stallings; his son John Stallings of Prescott; his daughter Barbara Stallings of Providence, R.I.; his granddaughters Ashley Stallings Armstrong (Charles) of Phoenix and Whitney Stallings Bautista (Robert) of San Diego; his brother Harry Stallings (Paula); stepchildren Dale Guilford (Cathy), Dianne Guilford (Amin), Amy Anderson, Alan Guilford (Terry) and Lori Willingham (John), 10 step-grandchildren, and 11 step-great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to Hospice of the Valley, for the loving medical care provided to Ollie during his final days. Services will be at First Congregational Church on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations to First Congregational Church, 1407 N. 2nd St., Phoenix, AZ 85004 or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E.
