Alice Aline Pierce Sisson. Widow of Edward Lewis Sisson, passed away
peacefully July 14th after a lengthy illness. A resident of Buckeye
since 1938, she and her late husband were in the cotton business for
many years. The middle child in a family of seven, Alice Sisson was born
November 14, 1903, in Louisville, Alabama, to William Winberly and
Henrietta Sharley Pierce. The family moved to Watanga, Oklahoma, where
Mrs. Sisson grew up. At Oklahoma University Alice Sisson became a member
of Delta Gamma Sorority, majoring in English. Upon graduation from O.U.,
she taught for several years in Oklahoma schools, principally at Clinton
High School where she headed the English Department. In her years as a
valley resident, Alice Sisson was active in her community as well as a
teacher in the Buckeye Schools. She was a founding member of Phoenix
Cotton Wives and a member of Phoenix Delta Gamma Alumnae. With her
husband she was a member for many years of the Wigwam Country Club and
the Community Church of Buckeye. For thirty-seven years she taught
Sunday School at the Community Church, and was a leader at UMW. She was
intensely interested in the education and well being of Buckeye youth.
In her extended family, she is survived by her beloved daughter Anne
Sisson Warkomski and husband James Norris Warkomski of Litchfield Park,
beloved grandsons Edward Joseph Warkomski and wife Linda and great-
grandson James Wallace Warkomski of Tucson, and Jon Norris Warkomski of
Goodyear. Other surviving family members include those especially dear
to her: nephews John William Anderson of Houston, Texas, and Robert
Sisson of Avondale; nieces Joy Anderson Kingsbury of Houston, Texas, and
Eldena Sisson Nieman of Prescott, and their respective families.
Visitation will be at Community Church, 810 E. Eason Ave., Buckeye, from
6 to 8 P.M. on Friday, July 18.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, July 19, at
Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, Phoenix.
A memorial service for Alice Sisson will be held at Community Church,
Buckeye, with the Rev. Paul Hall officiating on Saturday, July 26 at
10:30 A.M.
