DEMURO, Lorenza

Obits Arizona Lorenza DeMuro October 8, 1917 ~ December 25, 2011 Lorenza DeMuro passed away peacefully at age 94, on December 25, 2011. The daughter of Sicilian immigrants, she was born Lorenza Jenna and was raised in Chicago in a family of seven children. In 1940 she married her first boyfriend, Sam DeMuro, who met her when he came to her family’s home to fix her radio. They were married for sixty years before Sam died in 2001. She raised four boys – Samuel Jr., Michael, Eugene, and Arthur and had 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, to whom she was lovingly called “Super Grandma.” Forced to give up school during the Depression to help support her family, Lorry worked hard her entire life. She was very smart despite very little formal education, insightful without being interfering, an immaculate housekeeper, enthusiastic host for large family celebrations, and a devoted wife and mother. Additionally, Lorry supported Sam, when he founded a manufacturing firm called Mech-Tronics Corporation in Melrose Park, IL. She lived much of her life in Villa Park, IL where she loved to bowl, participate in the women’s club, and actively participated in the Catholic Church. She and Sam moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1969. After Sam’s death she remained fiercely independent. She possessed a remarkable ability to maintain her humility and sense of values while having achieved a position of financial security. As her health deteriorated due to heart and kidney failure, she continued to manage her life and fight these illnesses with admirable strength and dignity. She is survived by her sister Nancy, and sons Michael, Eugene and Arthur. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014 or Seton Catholic High School in Chandler, AZ.
