ALLEN, James S.

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, July 20, 2003 James S. Allen, 69, of Scottsdale, AZ died June 12, 2003. Born in Ames, Iowa on Feb. 7, 1934, he moved to Arizona 15 years ago from Ames. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran where he was trained as a pilot. In Ames, IA he was educated at Roosevelt Elementary, Central Junior High, and Ames Senior High Schools. He earned his BS and MS in Business Administration from Iowa State University, and also attended Chevrolet Post-Graduate School of Merchandising and Management for Dealers' Sons. He also had a Real Estate License in the state of Iowa. In Ames he was a partner with his father in Allen Motor Company; the owner of two Baskin Robbins franchises; and owner of James S. Allen CPA. He was also the owner of James S. Allen CPA in Scottsdale, AZ; and a partner with his son in Allen & Allen CPA's, P.C. in Tempe, AZ. In Iowa he was a member of the Christ Congregational Church in Ames; the Arcadia Lodge in Ames; the Za Ga Zig Shrine; the Benevolent Order of the Elks in Ames; and Treasurer for the State of Iowa for Special Olympics. He was also a member of the Rotary International in Mesa, AZ and the Kiwanis in Scottsdale, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher B. and Mary S. Allen. He is survived by his wife, Claire R.; daughter, Jacqueline S. Allen of Scottsdale, AZ; sons, James D., Peoria, AZ; Greggory T., Oceanside, CA; Kevin F., Scottsdale, AZ; Matthew S., Phoenix, AZ; sister, Marjorie S. Savage, Des Moines, IA; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. Graveside Services will be held Sat., July 26, 2003, at 10 AM in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. A Memorial Fund has been established in the name of James S. Allen with the Ames High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, c/o W. C. Ripp, 1921 Ames High Dr., Ames, Iowa 50010.
