HANNEMAN, SR., LeRoy C.


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, July 20, 2003 LeRoy C. Hanneman, Sr., 1918-2003, left this life peacefully after a long struggle to live. Born to Henry and Lovina (Wise) on October 15, 1918 in the Village of Lee Center, IL. After High School (1938) he was drafted into the Army (1941) and sent to the Cavalry in Kansas, then transferred to Camp Polk, LA as part of the Cadre that formed the 3rd Armored Division, 1st Army, Hq/23rd Engineers. They trained in the Mohave Desert, CA and were shipped to England, to await D-Day. He served in combat in WW II until the end of the war. Discharged in Sept. 1945 he married his wife Jean in Nov. 1945. In 1956 they moved to Phoenix from Dixon, IL with their 3 children, Terry, NM, Sue J., Phx., LeRoy, Jr., P.Vly. In 1959 Tina M., was born and now lives in Oregon. LeRoy worked in Quality Control for Airesearch (later Allied Signal) for 25 years retiring in 1981. In 1989 he was elected to the office of Sec'y./Treas. in the National 3rd Armored Division Assoc. For 9 years, LeRoy and Jean traveled the U.S. running the annual reunions for the Veterans and their families of the 3rd Armored Division Assoc. LeRoy enjoyed 10 grandchildren; Laura, Terry, Jr., Heidi, Lauren, Katharine, Andrew, Michael, Julie, Katherine, and Nicole and 5 great grandchildren. He was always a good husband, father, neighbor and even a good samaritan helping those who needed help. Special thanks to family, friends, neighbors and the Veterans and families of the 3rd Armored Div. Assoc. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at 7:00 P.M. at Whitney & Murphy Arcadia Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix, AZ. Donations are welcome to the WW II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
